Harmony should be a guiding principle of your design. Just as fire, earth, water and air are needed elements for balance of life, so are the elements of proportion, balance, color, and scale needed to find a harmonious effect in design. A mix of texture, large and small, neutral color and warm color, are all needed to bring a totality of harmony to your environment. And sometimes, what you leave out is just as important as what you put in. Learn to step back and take a look with an objective eye. Allow the notes of a room to sing, and also listen to what the room is trying to tell you. And remember, you may be the most important note of all.

beauty

"dwell on the beauty of life..." ~marcus aurelius~

photo copyright marie minnich www.marieminnichfineartphotography.com   Beauty. Harmony. Balance.  These are the attributes of good design, but also the attributes of an organized and orderly life. Without these attributes, we cannot have design sensibility. Now more than ever, we need these attributes both in our personal and communal life, to restore a sense of continuity and peace in the world. These are the universal attributes that transcend the dictates of fashion and trend, and will live on forever. Seek to raise your design sensibilities to the most transcendent level in order to have your personal space reflect your most cherished beliefs and desires.

Window treatments are used to control light, privacy, and warmth in an environment. But they also can add the finishing aesthetic touch to what might otherwise be a less than appealing view. Framed correctly, any window and view may be enhanced.

vintage

I am a classical and vintage aficianado. Antique hunting at flea markets is something I have been doing at flea markets and antique stalls since I was a little girl.   In this story, a vintage Stiffel lamp, c. 1950, sits next to a 1932 Maple serpentine settee that has been reupholstered in bottle green velvet. The Stiffel lamp sits on Chinese Rosewood nesting tables. The curves of the lamp are repeated in the serpentine curves of the settee. A modern note are the simple Hunter Douglas pleated shades, and reproduction fan. The entire vignette speaks of ease and elegance from another era, yet is timeless in its appeal.
